Financial Friction or Financial Harmony?

What does a jazz quartet have in common with your income? Everything and nothing. It all depends on how you earn money.

A jazz quartet is an elegant picture of exponential income growth. The musicians collaborate; they don’t compete. The result? Pure magic. Music that is far greater than the sum of its parts. It’s seamless multiplication in action, not addition. 

The sax contributes emotion. The piano enriches the emotion with color. The drums become the throbbing pulse, the heartbeat of the song. The bass anchors the creation so it can expand, grow, and linger in our hearts and minds long after the music stops. 

In a jazz quartet, the musicians don’t fight for their solos; they don’t mimic each other. They each find their groove; they complement each other’s strengths. And guess what? Each person gets to shine while their collective creation takes on a life of its own and keeps growing. The growth is not 1+1+1+1; it’s 10, 20, 40, 80, and beyond! That kind of exponential growth creates abundance for every player.

What’s the flip side? The out-of-tune one-man band. The solo street musician playing for pennies. You’ve seen the lone musician competing with street noise. He hustles hard; he’s overlooked and unheard; he’s threatened by lone competitors.

People toss him coins. At the end of the day, he may have survival money. He often trudges home weary and alone. He, like his music, fades into the urban noise. That not-so-pretty picture is an image of linear income earning. A rapidly dying model in the age of digital technology and AI. 

Cooperation is the Future

You can’t build wealth by working harder at your job or fighting for a bigger and better job. That’s playing solo. It’s making noise, not music. It’s clinging to the limited linear income model that you know. As AI redefines your world, linear earning will intensify the financial friction of your life until there’s no harmony left. 

Linear Income Defined

The most obvious form of linear income is trading your time for money. The only way to keep earning more money is to trade more of your time. Of course, your time is a precious but limited resource. Another example of linear income is money earned by selling products. You can only earn more money by continually selling more products. 

Exponential Income Defined

Literally, exponential means increasing or becoming more and more rapid. Whenever you use leverage to earn money, your income can be called exponential. A simple example is creating an online course ONCE and selling it tens, hundreds, or even thousands of times. You traded your time once, and that trade repeatedly earns you money.

The Jazz Quartet Earning Model

My preference is the collaborative team model of creating exponential wealth. Not only does it offer you an income with no ceiling, but it also connects you to like-minded team members who all benefit and share in the wealth. The sharing is a rich, priceless, intangible bonus of this earning model. Your team becomes an force that is always greater than the number of people in it.

Your team members are allies, not obstacles. Each person’s small efforts eventually produce huge results, far greater than any one person could ever produce. The team’s growth is propelled forward by trust and a steadily growing morale. You multiply each other’s efforts and share in the abundant results.

What About a Jazz Duo?

Jazz quartets have a special place in my heart. I grew up listening to John Coltrane, Dave Brubeck, and other jazz giants.

When it comes to an exponential income team, never underestimate the power of the jazz duo. A thriving exponential income team doesn’t require large numbers to build a financial legacy. In fact, trying to build a huge team often leads to burnout and failure.

When you conserve your energy and efforts by locking arms with just one other like-minded team player, the two of you can create a human money machine that enriches everyone and can’t be stopped. To my mind and ear, that is elegant, irresistible music.
